Ronan Tormey

Sales and Product Development Manager

Ronan is Sales and Product Development Manager for Bord na Móna Herbs, responsible for maintaining our positive customer experience. He has a keen interest in medicinal herbs, and is currently studying to become a Master Medical Herbalist at the Irish School of Herbal Medicine, which will lead to qualifications in Vitalist Nutrition, Iridology and Herbal Medicine. Ronan has a background in Commercial and Contracts Management, Energy Management and Sales Management. Ronan is passionate about herbs, organic farming, and sustainability.

Dearbhail Ni Chualáin

General Manager

Dearbháil is the general manager of Bord na Móna Herbs. Working in the horticulture industry for over twenty years, she brings a wealth of experience in plant growing, manufacturing and quality. In previous roles, she has worked with some of the largest retailers in Europe, the UK and Ireland. Her vision and drive underpin this business, as well as strong advocacy for organic high-quality products. She believes in the power of community spirit and holds a number of positions in far reaching industry groups promoting and harmonising the horticulture and agriculture industry.

Nicola McDaniel

Quality Manager

Nicola has a long history in quality systems and research in the horticulture industry. Qualifications include degrees in science, and quality management, a certificate in Professional Horticulture Practices, and Good Manufacturing Practices and is currently in the process of attaining lead auditor certification. She leads the analytical, compliance and research areas within the business and is responsible for technical documentation, traceability and co-ordinating positive release of samples.  Nicola also manages all organic certification, ISO22000 and FSSC22000 documentation within the company and is the point of contact for all internal and external audits.

Melanie Smith

Field Research Scientist

Melanie has a degree in Environmental Plant Biotechnology from UCC, and an M.Sc. in Plant Breeding and Pathology from Wageningen University. Melanie has previously worked for Teagasc, and the acclaimed Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology in Germany. Melanie is responsible for plant growth, plant health and researching new crops, as well as plant, soil analysis and quality control. A key member of our agronomy team, Melanie ensures that plants are grown to the highest quality, governed by our food safety, quality, and organic systems.

Liam Mooney

Field Manager

Liam is Field Manager for Bord na Móna Herbs, responsible for the day to day running of the field operations and the herbs cultivation. Liam has extensive experience in in environmental and peatlands development projects. Liam also has qualifications in engineering and project management, and is passionate about organic farming and sustainability.

Matt Hanaphy

Sales Executive

Matt is our Sales Executive and has worked for many years in many operational, sales, business development and operations roles. He is a qualified Medical Herbalist, studying under the guidance of renowned Herbalist Helen Begadon in the Irish School of Herbal Medicine. He is an elected Council Member with the Irish Association of Master Medical Herbalists, which is affiliated with the European Herbal Traditional Practitioners Association (EHTPA), representing herbal practitioners throughout Europe. He has a keen interest in natural healing and is passionate about the healing properties of plants. He is also a Living Food Instructor which supports the principles of raw vegan nutrition.
